I am a life-long resident of Monroe County and have been a practicing attorney for 47 years. I graduated from Brighton High School, Binghamton University (magna cum laude), and Syracuse University College of Law (cum laude).
Following my graduation from law school, I turned down lucrative offers to practice in the private sector to join the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office, where I appeared before every town court in Monroe County, the Appellate Division of Supreme Court, and N.Y. Court of Appeals, the state’s highest court. After nine years, I joined the New York State Attorney General’s Office where I represented state agencies and employees in state and federal courts on both the trial and appellate levels. After a brief stint in the Corporation Counsel’s Office of the City of Rochester, I re-joined the Attorney General’s Office as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General in Charge of the Rochester Regional Office, which covers a nine-county area. In this position, I was in charge of all the litigators in the office and also handled a full caseload of trial and appellate cases in both state and federal courts. The Attorney General’s Office handles civil and criminal matters and I prosecuted a number of misdemeanor and felony cases on behalf of the state, ranging from complex tax fraud cases to employment-related crimes, such as employers failing to maintain Workers’ Compensation insurance for their employees. In many cases, I was able to secure compensation for injured employees who otherwise would not have been compensated for their injuries.
I left state service in 2005 and joined Harris Beach, PLLC, as Senior Counsel, handling civil and criminal cases. Since 2012, I have maintained a solo practice representing clients in civil and criminal trials and appeals on both the state and federal levels. My cases often involve civil rights violations, as well as personal injuries, contract disputes, real estate transactions, corporate litigation, landlord-tenant matters, estate proceedings and family court matters. I am certified as an Attorney for the Child in Family Court and Supreme Court.
Having been a prosecutor and a defense attorney, an attorney for plaintiffs and defendants in civil matters – I firmly believe that no party has a monopoly on the truth. Justice is best served by a combination of experience, knowledge, and impartiality, all of which I believe I have demonstrated over the course of 47 years of legal practice.
I am admitted to the bar of the State of New York, the United States District Courts for the Western and Northern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. I have received numerous awards for my work, including the Louis J. Lefkowitz Award for my service in the Attorney General’s office.
My wife, Shelly, is a Registered Nurse who specializes in operating room procedures. We have lived in the village of Fairport since 1992. I welcome any questions from anyone wishing to discuss my qualifications to serve as Justice of the Perinton Town Court.
